Congratulations to Diya Patel! She has been awarded the Dr. Rodney Gross Diversity Scholarship to attend Eastern Kentucky University. Eastern Kentucky University recognizes the important role of diversity in fulfilling its mission. Diversity is fundamental to critical thinking and thus enhances what we learn, how we interact with others, and how we participate as citizens in a global community. They are committed to recruiting and retaining students from all segments of society, including African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic, or Latino. The Dr. Rodney Gross Diversity Scholarship program provides scholarships to applicants based on a holistic evaluation of academic achievement, listing of school activities and a personal essay. The program is intended for students pursuing their first undergraduate or graduate degree. Incoming freshman students must have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher with extracurricular support in athletics, community and/or student government services OR have a 3.0 grade point average or higher without extracurricular activities. If the student is a current EKU or transfer student, a minimum of a 2.5 college GPA is required. Awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 per year, and are applied to student's tuition and fees. In order to retain the scholarship, the student must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average, be enrolled full-time, reapply annually, and participate in the Rodney Gross Scholars Program in the Center for Inclusive Excellence and Global Engagement (CIEGE) if the student is an incoming freshman. Incoming freshman students participating in the Dr. Rodney Gross Scholars Program participate in the Academic Monitoring Program by attending individual meetings with support staff three times each semester. First time freshman must also attend a mandatory six hours of study hall per week in the Dr. Rodney Gross Study Lounge and are required to participate in the Freshmen Academy for Diverse Students.

Sophomore and Junior end of year testing begins May 9 and lasts through May 20. Students who earn a proficient or distinguished on will receive an honor cord to wear at graduation for EACH exam they earn a proficient or distinguished on. Check the spreadsheet linked below to see your test dates. Sophomores will test on two different days and juniors will test on three different days. So make sure to mark all of your dates and times down. Please let micca.caudill@johnson.kyschools.us know ASAP if you have a schedule conflict so we can switch your date(s). Attendance is required. Click the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet to toggle between sophomores and juniors. A handful of names will be added later, so if you don't see your name today, check here next week. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1W4qaB5-rpOhrA3vL5XehK5yNmVQPi5x_9wHaTU6X-bI/edit?usp=sharing
