May Newsletter

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
It is hard to believe that another school year is once again quickly coming to an end.  I want to express my gratitude to each of you on helping to make it a great year.  It takes each of us, working together to make our school a success!  I think that we have the best students, parents, and staff around.  Everyone takes an integral part in making it the best school it can be, “Whatever It Takes!”  The first week of May is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.  Take the time to let your teachers and school workers know how very pleased you are with the job they do each day for our kids.  Porter’s staff and parent support help make our school a happy place for children to work to their highest potential in a wonderful, pleasant environment.  We are very blessed!
Many activities will be going on in the next couple of weeks. Please refer to the Calendar for a complete list.  As always, the Principal’s Calendar and Newsletter can also be found on our school’s webpage.
Our District and State Testing Windows are completed except for any make-up exams for students who have missed.  These are state required assessments so any student who has missed any part must make them up on their first returned day May 1-May 4th.
We are currently accepting registration for new Kindergarten students for the 2017-2018 school year.  Kinder Camp has been set for July 19 from 7:30-11:30AM for new Kindergarten students at Porter.  Also, we are accepting new students in first through sixth grades.  Applications can be picked up in the main office. If you know of any new students to Porter, please let them know about pre-registering their child as soon as possible so that we can make adequate plans for the next school year.
Our Accelerated Reader program was once again a huge success.  We give awards on a quarterly basis to encourage students to read in addition to highlighting their accomplishments on our AR Wall of Fame.  Further each quarter we name our Library in honor of our highest AR point earner.  Reading is the most important thing that we can encourage our students to do.  Many students have reached high goals!  We have two students who have earned top AR honors in their grade band!  Congratulations Lucas Caron (4-6) and his sister Isabella Caron (K-3) for having the top overall AR points!  We are super proud of ALL of our READERS and for another BANNER year of READING at PES!
We will be taking numerous end-of-the-year field trips.  Make sure you look at our schedule because some of the times are before/after school hours
I want to wish our 6th grade students the best of luck next year as they go to Johnson County Middle School.
I am sure that they’ll continue to work hard and make us proud.  They have been a pleasure to have as Panthers!

Again, thanks to everyone for such a wonderful school year and for making our school the greatest!  See you next year at Open House on Tuesday, August 2, 2017 and the first day of school on Wednesday, August 3, 2017. Have a
Yours in education,
Sandra Music,
Principal
