PORTER ELEMENTARY KINDERGARTEN PRE-REGISTRATION FOR 2017-2018 GOING ON NOW
We are planning ahead for our 2017-2018 school year and are needing information on students who will be enrolling at Porter as new Kindergarten students. Please help share this information with families you know who have a child who will be entering Kindergarten next school year. Please have them contact me via private message on Facebook, phone call to school at 606-789-2545, or drop by the school during office hours 8:00AM-3:00PM.
The law has changed this year on the entrance age to enroll. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, any child who is five (5) years of age, or who may become five (5) years of age by August 1, may enter a primary school program, as defined in KRS 158.031. (Note: The age deadline was October 1.)
We will have some information and resources to send out in early spring and would love to get that information out to all our new Panthers! So, please make sure any parent with a child of this age gets in touch with us in January. Kindergarten Registration Packets will be available around March. At this time we just need the incoming child's name, address, phone number, and birthdate for Pre-Registration purposes.

Happy New Year 2017
We trust that everyone has enjoyed their Christmas/Winter vacation time and is ready and excited to begin the new semester and the new year! We start back to school for the second semester on Monday, January 2, 2017.
We've included some important dates on our Principal's January Calendar and Newsletter that can be located on the PES Webpage. Each month the monthly Calendar and Newsletters are sent home by Mrs. Music. However, they can also always be found on our webpage.

NTI Practice Run this Wednesday, November 30th for PES!
We will have our "NTI Practice Run" this Wednesday, Nov. 30th. All students will be bringing home a letter that has his/her Edmodo ID/Password on it. Further, these can be find in your child's planner/agenda book. The brief assignment will be completed on-line (for those with home technology access) or by a hard copy sent home. Hard copies are due back on Thursday, Dec. 1 and on-line assignments are due to be complete by early evening on Wed. Nov. 30th for participation credit. The letter sent home explains NTI Day protocol for our school and district. Since these days (when called by our district) are counted toward regular instructional days, ALL students are expected to participate. Students will receive grades for work toward their task(s).
The practice day on Wednesday afternoon/evening will help us to work out any kinds, problems, or questions that may occur before an actual NTI Day is called by the district. The assignment is small in nature and we ask that every child participate in the on-line or hard copy assignment. If technology is available in the home, we strongly encourage participation with the on-line protocol as it is less time consuming for all parties (runnning papers off, grading papers, keeping up with papers for a grade, etc.).
As stated earlier, NTI Days count toward a regular school day. Therefore, students are asked to complete assignments that they will receive a grade for performance on the task(s). There can be up to ten NTI Days in a school-year. There is a required participation rate in order to continue to offer approved NTI Days so we ask that you ensure your child completes the assignments for this reason, as well.
--K-3 Grades will have assignments in Reading and Math
--4-6 Grades will have assignments in Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, and any "Specials" Class for the day missed. For example, if they have PE on the missed day there will be an assignment for PE. All students have there very own Edmodo log-in and password.
--Total assignments for an NTI Day would normally take between 2-3 1/2 hours to complete. Special Class (PE, Arts, Counseling) assignments are shorter and are only 10-15 minutes each.
--The district will always announce these days as "NTI Days" on local radio and media when they occur.
We really appreciate your help in making NTI Days successful and for participating in the NTI Day Practice Run!
